Hornady has introduced the new VEXIS Mobilis Safe, a modular gun safe that uses palm-vein recognition instead of a traditional fingerprint scanner.
The system uses near-infrared light to read the unique vein pattern beneath your skin and can reportedly verify a user in under half a second. Hornady says the biometric data is stored locally in the safe and is never uploaded or shared. Hornady Store
The Mobilis design is also modular, meaning the safe can be moved into a room in sections and assembled in place instead of trying to muscle a giant welded safe through a doorway while discovering new swear words. It includes 9-gauge steel exterior walls, a 3/16-inch steel door, 1-inch locking bolts, and one-hour fire protection rated to 2300°F. Hornady Store
There’s still a keypad and mechanical-key backup if the biometric system isn’t your thing.
The single-door model is listed at $3,173.99, with a larger double-door version also available. Hornady Store
What do you think about palm-vein biometrics for firearm storage?
Would you trust it over a fingerprint reader, or are you sticking with a good old mechanical lock?
